“Jesus Revolution”– Kathleen and I just saw the movie this past weekend. It is a powerful and accurate retelling of what God did in the 1970’s in revealing Himself among the marginalized hippie population in Southern California.
For me the movie turned out to be more than just a retelling of history. For me, it turned out to be deeply personal. It was my salvation history.
That work of God in S.Cal swept across the nation, yes even into my hometown of Lexington, Ohio. I was introduced to Christ through the life-examples of several high school friends in the early 70’s. There were other people and movements, too, which God was stirring up. The Canadian Saskatoon Revival and Sutera brothers of Canada left their mark on our community and many students. There were also two HS teachers, Rod Huston and Tom Chelf who poured themselves into students and groups. Ray Netherly, a S.Cal transplant had meanwhile begun an active L’Abri-styled ministry center (Grace Haven) for those seeking and in spiritual quest. In July ’73, I accepting Christ’s forgiveness and leadership which supernaturally altered the trajectory of my life. This flawed, forgiven ‘life’ is now 50 years into this journey. With God’s grace and help this Jesus Revolution will not end. DM me if you want to know more or have questions.
