Judgement.  Mortifying or maybe not

by | May 25, 2023 | Uncategorized

“The prospect of divine judgment is certainly mortifying, but…we must appreciate the broader significance of our ultimate accountability to God”.

Evangelical Convictions, p.223

Aspects of divine judgment are indeed good,..yes, absolutely good.

A. God’s judgment gives dignity to us.  Yes, He treats us all equally as responsible, moral agents.

B. God’s judgment underlies all moral demands, He consistently carries out what He stated as universal rule of law. His judgment is the absolute standard for what is right and good.  And what is not.

C. God’s judgment is the ultimate ending and proof that good is good and evil is evil

D. God’s judgment is ultimate proof that He has the right to rule and reward and punish as He said.

So how then ought we live in light of this ultimate accountability?  Because of the Lord Jesus Christ and His bodily sacrifice on our behalf reconciles us to God, we need not fear God’s judgment. Nor ought we ever think that because God judges, He is malevolent or capricious.  Neither is true. God’s judgment is the enactment of what is true, right, fore-spoken about His character.  Trust Him, accept His forgiveness. “By grace you have been saved, through faith…”. Ephesians 2:8-9.
